Radon is a colorless, odorless, radioactive gas. It forms naturally from the decay (breaking down) of radioactive elements, such as uranium, which are found in different amounts in soil and rock throughout the world. Radon gas in the soil and rock can move into the air and into underground water and surface water.
Radon is present outdoors and indoors. It is normally found at very low levels in outdoor air and in drinking water from rivers and lakes. It can be found at higher levels in the air in houses and other buildings, as well as in water from underground sources, such as well water.
A radon test takes 48 hrs. to test but the testers we use are electronic continuous monitors that can test longer in needed. During stormy weather we will extend the test time.
Most radon mitigation systems can be installed in one day, Larger jobs may take two or more days.
There is a lot of factors that determine the cost of a radon mitigation system and sometimes sealing a drain or sump pit may be all that is needed. We look at the type of structure and what type of work is needed. We do need to visit the home to determine the cost of the mitigation system. Most full mitigation systems start at $1,400.00
After 24 hrs. the radon levels will be at it’s reduced level.
A home with a radon mitigation system installed should be tested every two years.
We do offer 5 Year guarantees that the radon levels will be below the 4 pCi/l on most homes. There are some home that we do not. We take a phased approach to some home trying the most cost-effective approach by effective system for the cost. We do not what to charge for some work that may not be needed if our first radon mitigation system lowers the radon levels.
Yes, we do. It is required by the National Radon Proficiency Program that the certified contractor visit the home to bid the mitigation job, and not just someone working for there company. Some companies do not have the person listed working in their office.
Most fans come with a 5-year guarantee if they are supplied by a radon mitigation contractor. We have had some lasting over 23 Years.
We always test the home radon levels after a radon mitigation system is installed.
We paint the piping outside for an added fee. We build the vent pipe outside on the house wall then we remove it and paint it on sawhorses and the reinstall the piping. Most contractors do not paint the piping and some have been known to paint the pipe after it is installed getting paint on the house wall.
No. We use a vacume when we are drill holes in concrete. The job sight is cleaned up and all trash is removed. Some have said the area we have worked in was cleaner when we finished than before we started our work.
